Sensory Integration Therapy

Sensory integration is the ability to organize sensory information for use. It is a neurological process that organizes sensations from one’s own body and from the environment and makes it possible to use the body effectively within the environment. Sensory integration is information processing. The brain must select, enhance, inhibit, compare, and associate the sensory information in flexible, constantly changing patterns, or we can say the brain must integrate it.

How Sensory Integration works

Sensory Integration Intervention helps an individual to improve in Pervasive Developmental Disorders by:

  • Regulating arousal level.
  • Increasing ability to attend and decreasing distractibility.
  • Decreasing anxiety.
  • Increasing comfort.
  • Decreasing stereotypic or self simulatory behaviors.
  • Improving various skills.
  • Increasing independence.
