Speech therapy is treatment for problems with speaking, language, and swallowing. Speech therapy helps with using the voice properly and using the muscles to make the right sounds. Kids who have language issues can benefit socially, emotionally, and academically from speech therapy. A speech therapist can address specific challenges by using tailored strategies such as Language Intervention Activities, Articulation Therapy, and Feeding and Swallowing Therapy.

A Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP)works with children with autism to address the following:

  • Facilitating understanding of spoken language and situational expectations
  • Gripping difficulties
  • Over/under pressure while writing
  • Sensory issues with writing implements
  • Hyper-focus on the details of writing etc.

The speech therapist works with the child and his or her family to facilitate effective communication among them such that it benefits the child's overall development.
